Eco News Network presents our favorite eco-celeb of the week. We love seeing what celebrities are up to, and that doesn’t mean when it comes to movies, television or music albums, but with how they’re giving back to the planet. This week, reality star and fashion queen Lauren Conrad caught our eye. She not only has major talent in the fashion world, but she is also making a name for herself in the eco-friendly community. Check out how she protects Mother Earth.
What do you think of when you hear the name Lauren Conrad? Most likely, it’s MTV’s popular reality TV series “The Hills.”
Even though that’s what she’s loved and known for, she’s been making a name for herself in the fashion world, and for good reason. Not only does she have great taste, but she also incorporates the environment into some pieces.
In 2012, she launched her very own eco-friendly accessories line called XO (eco). Lauren designed the line with help from eco-conscious company Blue Avocado and Repreve, a recyclable material company.
The line offers affordable accessories like a beauty clutch, a cover for your straightener, a lunch kit and a cafe tote, among others.
Each product is made from Repreve’s recycled material, which is crafted from reclaimed, used plastic bottles. It is then recycled into yarn for items like Lauren’s.
For example, her beauty kit is designed from 6.5 recycled plastic bottles, and her hot iron bag is made from three recycled plastic bottles.
“As a designer, I hope that my choices for this collection raise awareness around the importance of environmental sustainability and green products. Eco-friendly is not a fad–it’s the future. And with my new line, you will have some cute eco options to pick from 
,” she says on her website.
“At the end of the day, I encourage you to get inspired to join me in this green adventure by opting to go eco chic. Together we can create the ripples of awareness that can inspire a positive impact on our beautiful oceans and environment of which we will be supporting organizations that focus on ocean recovery efforts through the collection.”
Lauren’s line just shows that you can sport cute accessories and protect the planet too.
In addition to fashion, the 26-year-old is a huge animal lover. Just this past November, Lauren adopted an adorable pooch named Fitz. She now has two rescue dogs; the other named Chloe.
We love seeing young women like Lauren dabbling in the eco-world and animal rescue community. What will she come up with next? We can’t wait to see!
