Eco News Network presents our favorite eco-celeb of the week. We love seeing what celebrities are up to, and that doesn’t mean when it comes to movies, television or music albums, but with how they’re giving back to the planet. This week, TV star Torrey DeVitto caught our eye. Not only is she known for her many roles on several popular TV shows, but she is also known for her animal activism and PETA partnerships. Check out how she protects Mother Earth.
Torrey DeVitto has played some of the most hated characters on TV. From crazy Nanny Carrie on “One Tree Hill” to dubious Melissa Hastings on “Pretty Little Liars,” she sure is good at being bad.
However, one thing that can’t be denied is that she’s far from the roles she plays in real life, as she has a soft spot for animals.
On several occasions, she has partnered with PETA showing her love for animals, and why it’s important not to harm them. Torrey has even joined forces with the Humane Society of the United States.
Here are her accomplishments, in detail.
1. Torrey Says No to Fur
In 2012, PETA and Torrey joined hands promoting an anti-fur campaign and the dire importance of adopting shelter animals. “Fur is a huge issue I’m really passionate about. I’ve been passionate about it for a really long time. I just think it’s so despicable and disgusting and to kill these animals, because of some vain fashion . . . “ Check her out in action in the above video.
2. Torrey Promotes Humane Couture
Last year, Torrey and her husband, “The Vampires Diaries” star Paul Wesley, hosted the first HSUS H-Couture fashion show. The event celebrated the idea that animals do not need to be harmed when making fashion. “Fashion should be fun, and I don’t see how wearing animal fur can be anything other than cruel and unnecessary. This event will show that anyone can be fashion-conscious without animals having to pay the price,” Torrey said.
3. Torrey is Anti-Dissection
Most recently, Torrey partnered once again with PETA against school dissections. Most students think they have to cut open animals, but other alternatives exist. For example, Torrey notes virtual dissections are a great way for students to learn, and not harm animals in the process. Above, you can watch Torrey’s ad and her passion for the cause.
Torrey never lets animal activists, and her fans, down when it comes to the environment and its creatures. Keep up the good work!
