Eco News Network presents our favorite eco-celeb of the week. We love seeing what celebrities are up to, and that doesn’t mean when it comes to movies, television or music albums, but with how they’re giving back to the planet. This week, talented actor Alec Baldwin caught our eco-friendly eye for his avid work with environmental issues. Check out how he protects Mother Earth.
Alec Baldwin has been around Hollywood for quite some time. Just like he’s impacted the acting biz, he’s also impacted the environmental world. Here’s how – well a few examples at least, because there are just too many to list.
First, the “30 Rock” actor is an avid supporter of the animal community. On several occasions, he’s partnered alongside animal organizations and spoke out in favor of animal rights.
For example, in March 2012, he filmed a video for PETA calling for a Ringling Bros. circus boycott. In the video he says, “Having worked with actors for many years, it’s hard to believe that anyone would have to be dragged kicking and screaming into show business. But for the elephants for Ringling Bros. and other circuses, that’s exactly what happens.”
To see Alec in action, watch the video posted at the end of this piece.
PETA also respects the actor’s help. For Alec’s wedding to Hilaria Thomas, the animal rights group rescued a bull in his name.
“Alec is a strong person you don’t mess with, and he’s a vegetarian, as is Baldwin Thomas [the bull]. The couple who have everything now have a rescued bull whose newly found happiness reflects their own,” said PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange.
Furthermore, Alec also sponsors non-related animal issues, as he is a huge contributor in the anti-fracking movement.
In June 2012, he hosted his own anti-fracking event, Ecorazzi reports, as part of the “What the Frack?” movement. In relation, Alec also joined Sean Lennon’s initiative, Artists Against Fracking, alongside at least 200 other celebrities like Paul McCartney, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman and Hugh Jackman.
He even stepped up to speak out against the Keystone KL Pipeline when he asked Occupy Wall Street protesters to Occupy Pipeline through his Twitter account.
If you know Alec, he isn’t one to hold back, especially about his beliefs. If anyone can get through to others, he’s the one to do so.
Alec, keep up the good environmental work!
